Plan and make sure you have all of the following:
- A valid full driving license with paper counterpart if you have a photocard. - Original vehicle registration document. - Motor insurance certificate & What to do in an accident references - European Breakdown Cover documents and emergency telephone numbers - A GB sticker or EU number plates which include the GB symbol. - A spare set of car keys, kept in a different place - Fully functional additional tire.
In certain countries you also need:
- Two reflective jackets or waistcoats - they are compulsory in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Austria and Croatia. - A warning triangle - needed in most countries and you need two when in Spain. - A first aid kit in Austria.
Optional, but recommended...
- Pre-trip service for the car service to minimize the risk of breaking down in Europe. - A cellular phone for fast emergency contact. - Car battery jumper cables (click here for information on how to jump start a car) - A fire extinguisher - Tow rope for emergency, especially if going to rough terrains or bad weather
